Spatial Ethnography 2nd Mini Course 2026

Sensing Space, Ritual, and Economy
March–April 2026
We are pleased to invite students, scholars, and researchers to participate in the Spatial Ethnography 2nd Mini Course, held from March to April 2026. This program is organized by a collaborative research team from Universitas Indonesia (UI), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the University of Southern California (USC).
This mini course explores processes of social change through anthropological and spatial approaches. In addition to methodological training, the sessions will present preliminary findings from field research in Sumba, focusing on food security and the enduring Marapu tradition that continues to shape everyday social and economic life. Participants will be guided to develop ethnographic strategies and spatial analytical perspectives while critically engaging with issues of ritual, economic transformation in transitional societies, and the production of space.
